All Music and Lyrics by Alex Dolan Balin
When I was just a kid
Just six years old underneath the sun
I was playing with my brothers
A game of tag, just making honest fun
One brother finally caught me
He hit my face
And the other cried "what have you done?"
I ran home to my mom
Told on my brother
Saying "I hate him so!"
She said, "Now chitlen listen,
You gotta LET IT GO"
Once I loved a boy
The sweetest boy I thought i ever knew
I always played him music
And he always told me that i never had to
And after months went by
I noticed something unfamiliar in his eyes
It was the face of another girl
He broke my heart, tore apart my world
And after all this time
I got to let it go
So many others just like me
Have trouble to just let it be
But if we learn to set it free
We may find that we don’t have to
Feel all of those bad things
We’ll learn to save ourselves
Learn to love ourselves always
You must have heard about it
The ugly things happening in the world
The genocide in Africa
And the starving of little boys and girls
And even our home the earth
Is dying and what have we really done?
We did this to her
And we’re the only ones that can stop it now
But our leaders keep saying
"let it go"
